Materials I Use:

Over the years, I’ve found a few trusty supplies that I reach for again and again—whether I’m painting a forest landscape in watercolor or sketching ideas on the iPad with a cup of coffee nearby. (What can I say, I drink a lot of coffee!!)

On this page, I’m sharing some of my favourite tools: from richly pigmented Daniel Smith paints to the always-reliable Arches watercolor paper, plus a few extras like Micron pens and Procreate for digital planning and design. If you can only splurge on one thing, I would always recommend you splurge on paper – It can make a world of difference!

If you’re just getting started or curious about what I use, I hope this list helps take a bit of the guesswork out of choosing supplies. These are materials I genuinely love and use in my own work. Some of the links on this page are affiliate links, which means I may earn a small commission if you decide to purchase at absolutely no extra cost to you. It’s a simple way to support the site and help me keep creating tutorials and resources for you here. Thanks for being part of the journey!

Daniel Smith Paints - These are the paints I use 99% of the time. They are professional watercolors that come in over 240 different colours. The six essentials are listed in this link, and are considered a great start for mixing!
Daniel Smith Dot Card
Want to try almost all the colours? Here is your chance! The dot cards last a surprisingly long time, given how small they look. Great for swatching and practicing with smaller sheets of paper!
Arches Cold Press - An amazing paper for landscapes or any subject matter that requires several washes. The texture is more pronouced then hot press! I used pads and tap down the sheets, but you can also get blocks that you don't need to tape (They are much more expensive though)
Arches Hot Press - My main squeeze, this paper is amazing for tiny details and has a very smooth finish. You can get blocks for this type of paper as well, if you prefer that to taping!
These are a set of micron pens, used to pen illustration.
Micron Pens - Absolutely perfect for inking before painting! Once dry it doesnt budge.
Procreate - An App for the IPad - Great for sketching and trying different colour palletes before commiting on the page! I draw in Procreate before transfering the final drawing to watercolor paper.
